How to Object to the Use of Your Data by Meta AI on Facebook and Instagram
Meta (the company that owns Facebook and Instagram) has recently announced that, it will begin using user-generated content from its platforms to train its artificial intelligence models, including Meta AI.
This includes personal data, posts, photos, videos, which may be processed for purposes that go beyond the original reason for which the data was collected.
As a data subject under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to object to this processing.
✅ What you can do
Meta has made a dedicated form available for users who wish to exercise their right to object. Here’s how to proceed:
1. Access the objection form
You can access the form via the following links:
-
Facebook: Facebook Objection Form
-
Instagram: Instagram Objection Form
⚠️ If the links do not work, try accessing them via the Privacy Center or Help Center in your account settings.
2. Fill out the form
You will be asked to:
-
Select the reason for your objection: you may state that you object to the processing of your personal data for AI training purposes, under Article 21 of the GDPR.
-
Provide identification details, such as your name and the email address associated with your account.
-
Include a brief justification. You can write, for example:
“I object to the use of my personal data by Meta AI for the purposes of training artificial intelligence systems, as this goes beyond the original purpose for which the data was collected and infringes upon my rights to privacy and data protection.”
3. Submit the request and keep a copy
After completing the form, submit your request and keep a copy of the confirmation (e.g., a screenshot) for your records.
Meta is required to respond to your request within 30 days, unless an extension is justified.
